Overview

Equip leaders to navigate conflict, strengthen trust, and bridge divides—at every level of community life.

Communities don’t fracture because people lack opinions. They fracture when people lose the capacity to stay connected across differences.

Lead Across Differences is Leadership Austin’s signature initiative helping individuals, teams, and communities disagree better, think better, and act together.

Across Organizations

Strengthen culture where it matters most: your teams

Conflict doesn’t only show up in public life—it shows up inside organizations.

We partner with employers, nonprofits, and civic institutions across Central Texas to build cultures of trust, resilience, and collaboration.

Engagements focus on:

  • Leading through high-conflict moments without escalation or withdrawal
  • Strengthening psychological safety and team trust
  • Improving feedback culture and communication norms
  • Aligning teams around shared purpose amid disagreement
  • Building durable leadership behaviors across levels

Through workshops, retreats, and embedded learning journeys, teams build the capacity to move through conflict—not around it.

  • Navigate difficult conversations with clarity and confidence
  • Listen across perspective and lived experience
  • Recognize and interrupt patterns of polarization
  • Build trust in diverse groups under pressure
  • Turn disagreement into shared problem-solving

These skills are embedded, applied to real leadership challenges, and strengthened through peer learning.

Innovation Lab for Bridging Divides

Testing what actually works in complex systems

Bridging divides requires experimentation, humility, and continuous learning.

The Innovation Lab is Leadership Austin’s applied learning space for designing and refining new approaches to dialogue, conflict, and collaboration.

This is not a static curriculum—it is a living system of learning.

Examples include partnerships with community and civic partners and learning environments such as cohorts, public programs, and convenings.

The Lab strengthens everything we do—from cohort programs to masterclasses to national partnerships—ensuring our work stays responsive, relevant, and grounded in practice.

“This course transformed how I approach conversations across different viewpoints. I walked away with practical strategies to build trust, communicate more effectively, and lead with empathy in challenging situations.”

Why This Work Matters

Leadership is no longer defined by having the right answers—but by the ability to stay in conversation when things get hard. Lead Across Differences rebuilds that capacity—one leader, one team, one community at a time.

Get Involved

Become part of the work of bridging divides

This work requires people willing to step into complexity and practice new ways of engaging across difference. We are building a network of facilitators, practitioners, and community leaders committed to this work.

Start with Yourself

Bridging divides begins with how we show up in moments of tension—before we change systems, we practice within them.
