Lead Across Differences | Disagree Better, Lead Better

Are you part of the 87% of Americans who are tired of how highly divided we are? With social division and online discourse getting ugly, it can be tempting to recoil, avoid conflict, point fingers at the “other side,” or completely disengage. And what if there was a better way?

Now open to the public, Lead Across Differences is a “leadership lab” to practice responding in the moment to hot-button issues and gain pro tips for effective leadership.

Theory of Change

The world needs engaged leaders. We need leaders who foster free inquiry and model respectful dialogue, so that we can build stability in our communities and workplaces.

Desired long-term community outcomes include:

  • Increases in belonging (reduced loneliness)
  • Increased desire to engage civically
  • More durable regional solutions

“We believe the region can come together to tackle the problems no one else is addressing — if we can stand each other long enough to get to the heart of issues that matter,” said Leadership Austin CEO Jill Goodman. We hear from leaders that they want to preserve relationships that matter to them, stay true to their values, and keep politics and difficult people out of the way of what’s needed for a better Central Texas. With real-world practice, leaders build the muscle memory to lead with finesse in all the places they touch.”

Gratitude

We are grateful to the 22 Leadership Austin alumni, community members, and St. Edward’s students who helped us test and refine the learning experience. Meet the pilot cohort.

After testing concepts, Leadership Austin has new training for:

  • Individuals
  • Managers/Supervisors
  • Teams
  • Companies
