Help Us Recruit the Classes of 2020!
Hello Alumni! It’s that time of year again: recruitment season is kicking off and we need your help.
What can you expect?
This year we’re adding more opportunities for applicants to learn about Leadership Austin, which means more opportunities for you to connect and help. Since relationships are the foundation of our programs, we’re bringing relationship building front and center this year to drive our recruiting efforts. There are quite a few ways you can help us make those connections!
How can you help?
Recruitment season is about more than opening up applications. It’s about opening our doors, welcoming the community into our home and inviting people to join the Leadership Austin family. From large events to small gatherings and one-on-one coffee meet-ups, we need alumni to show up, share your experience and get to know the people who are interested in getting to know us. Help us welcome them and steward them through the application process. Read through all the opportunities below and let us know how you’d like to play a role.
Connect us with People
Who do our programs need this year? The majority of our applicants each year come through referrals from alumni. Submit names of people who you think should apply, and we’ll follow up to make sure they have all the information they need about the application process.
- A couple of things to consider: This year, more than ever before, we want to focus on the voices that have been missing from our classes. Here are a few things to think about when you’re making referrals:
- We encourage you to reflect back to your Leadership Austin experience and think about which voices were not there. Spend some time thinking about who you know that would bring a different perspective to the class. (Consider industries, ideologies, cultures and any other lenses that would bring more diversity.) And send us those names!
- We also know that some of the first people who pop into your mind might be similar to you. You know that Leadership Austin is a good place for them to grow because it helped you grow, too. Please send us those names as well! (We thought you were great so they’re also probably pretty great.)
Connect us with Organizations
We’re growing our list of organizations that we’re not yet connected with but want to be! What organizations need to be on this list? Let us know. (And keep that thought going about the voices missing from our classes. What organizations would lead us to those people?) Are you a leader of an organization that would like help us recruit? Submit your own name through the form and we’ll follow up to find the best way to get the word out to your employees and/or members.
Connect over Coffee
Remember how great Walk & Talks were? Let’s bring that sentiment into recruitment.
- We’re asking alumni to grab coffee with folks who are thinking about applying.
- We also want to connect one-on-one with the leaders of those organizations that we want to know more about.

- Kickoff Celebration and Info Session: Come out for this year’s first recruiting event and help us build energy and excitement about recruitment season!
- April 23, 2019 / 5:00 – 7:00 pm / Browning Hangar @ Mueller
- Coffee & Conversation: Gather with us at the Leadership Austin office for casual coffee and conversation with people interested in applying to our programs.
- Emerge – May 7, 2019 / 7:30 – 9:00 am / Leadership Austin
- Essential – May 9, 2019 / 7:30 – 9:00 am / Leadership Austin
- Application Writing Workshops: This year we’re offering the opportunity to attend an application writing workshop. Come and share tips with applicants about how to write about their story and come to life in their application.
- May 14, 2019 / 5:30 – 7:00 pm / Leadership Austin
- June 5, 2019 / 11:30 am – 1:00 pm / Leadership Austin
- Mix & Mingle: These evening receptions offer one last chance for applicants to connect with alumni and staff before applications are due.
- Application Work Sessions: Before they hit submit on their applications, we’re encouraging applicants to bring their laptops to the office and we’ll have alumni here to read over their applications and offer suggestions.

Connect with your Community
Share with your networks that applications are now open and offer to help people through the application process. Send folks to the recruiting page of our website so they can see all the ways to learn about us. Utilize your own social media and also think about the social platforms, newsletters, community boards that you have access to as well.
