Engage for May: Can Austin Undo Racism?

Engage for May: Can Austin Undo Racism?

It’s not easy to talk about racism. For some it is personal and raw. For others it is distant and undefinable.  For many it is somewhere in between and accompanied by the question, “what do we do about it?” It’s easy to get stuck thinking about the enormity of the situation, not even knowing where to start, but thanks to a group of citizens who participated in the Mayor’s Task Force on Institutional Racism and System Inequities and issued a recent report, our city continues to move forward toward action. Join us on May 3 to hear from the Co-Chairs of the task force about the recommendations being made to tackle issues of racial and economic segregation.

Our panelists are:

Dr. Colette Pierce Burnette, Co-Chair, Mayor’s Task Force, President, Huston-Tillotson University

Dr. Paul Cruz, Co-Chair, Mayor’s Task Force, Superintendent, Austin Independent School District
