Want to Make a Difference? – Are you semi or fully retired and have always wanted to use your skills to support the nonprofit community?
The Austin region has one of the fastest growing baby boomer populations in the country. With this in mind, Leadership Austin has been exploring opportunities for this age demographic as part of our strategic plan. After many community discussions, we decided to launch a small pilot in 2018 with the goal of building nonprofit capacity utilizing the experience of semi or fully retired boomers, known as Fellows. Our Fellows work on a part-time basis tackling discrete challenges for their nonprofit organizations.
To better understand this concept, please watch this video of a similar program called Encore. Our Fellows, thanks to some generous funders including St. David’s Foundation and the Anderson Foundation, are paid a small stipend for the year. Our Host organizations (nonprofit partners) pay a small contribution for their Fellow’s work (approximately 2 days weekly for a year). Here is more information about the role of a Fellow.
If you are interested in exploring the Fellow pilot, please contact Debbie Johnson, former Leadership Austin Board Chair who is leading this effort, at 512-517-9485 or fellows@leadershipaustin.org.
We are excited to offer this opportunity of an ‘encore’ career to make a difference in the community and help build capacity in the social sector. We hope you’ll consider joining us or if someone in your network would benefit from this program, either as a Fellow or a Host, feel free to share this information and have them contact Debbie. This program is not limited to just Leadership Austin Alumni . . . all are welcome!
