Following the death of George Floyd in police custody on May 25th, a strong current of support for the Black Lives Matter movement swept across the nation. Thousands in Greater Austin and the world took to the streets and to social media to challenge white supremacy. However, the fight for racial equity does not end once #BLM is no longer trending on Twitter and the daily protests die down. Join our conversation as we discuss the difference between sustainable and performative activism, action steps to establish a culture of accountability, and expanding the focus of the movement beyond policing to address the intersectional systems of oppression that impact Black lives and other communities of color both locally and nationally.
