Engage Breakfast Series May 8 – Mental Health Outcomes in Youth
Mental Health Outcomes in Youth

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI):

  • 50% of all lifetime cases of mental illness begin by age 14 (updated)
  • Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death in youth ages 10-24
  • LGBTQIA teens are six times more likely to experience symptoms of depression than the general population
  • 50% of students with a mental illness age 14 and older drop out of school- the highest dropout rate of any disability group (updated)
  • Only 50% of youth with mental illness receive treatment
  • 70% of youth in state and local juvenile justice systems have a mental illness

If untreated, mental health conditions in young people can extend into adult hood, adversely affecting their development, education, employment and relationships. Join our panel to better understand mental health and discuss how we can improve the well-being of all young people in our society.
