Parc Smith (Essential 2014) Executive Director of American YouthWorks in Austin received one of the five “Tom Harkin Excellence in AmeriCorps Awards.” In 2012, American YouthWorks launched their Texas Conservation Corps and corresponding Emergency Response Team, which include teams of AmeriCorps members that are trained and ready for rapid deployment in response to disasters across Texas. Without these critical program changes, American YouthWorks would not have had the swift and impactful response to this year’s Texas floods.
Dr. Lynn Taylor (Emerge 2009) was recently awarded the the Alexander N. Charters Adult Education Research grant to do postdoctoral research in the history and practice of adult education using the Charters Library collections at Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY.
