As we extend our special five-part Engage Breakfast series, The Growing Divide, we continue to discuss the elements that make Austin strong, yet trends that are creating divisions. There are layers and layers to this theme, so we are spending the next four months peeling back the issues, and hearing what various community leaders say about one of the city’s greatest and most immediate challenges.
The Growing Housing Gap
In the second breakfast of this series, we will address housing affordability, one of the most concrete examples of the economic challenges dividing Austin. Our panelists will weigh in on gentrification, the pros and cons of density planning, the draw of the suburbs, and how the housing gap affects a city’s diverse culture. Using specific examples from city/neighborhood collaborations, the panelists will share their perspectives on a more cohesive and affordable Austin.
