Beyond the Road: Mapping mobility options for Greater Austin
When it comes to growth, Austin continues to be in the fast lane; and when it comes to transportation everyone has a different answer. Austin‘s traffic troubles are among the worst in the nation, which means we all have at least one thing in common. Anyone trying to get around town has experienced the side effect of our region’s growth: unrelenting gridlock and frustration. Since road construction has been limited over the years, how is our region exploring other transportation alternatives? Join us for a dialogue exploring the different options for mobility in Greater Austin.
- Julio Gonzalez Altamirano is a native Texan whose diverse Austin civic efforts include organizing Austinites to support smart transit and land use. He writes about Austin policy and policymakers at Keep Austin Wonky, and brings to this conversation a data-based perspective on how policymakers should be optimizing public investments to address Austin’s transportation needs.
- Scott Gross is with the Austin Transportation Department and Project Connect: Central Corridor. In this dialogue he will speak about the efforts of Project Connect in solving regional transportation issues.
- Joseph Kopser is the Co-Founder and CEO of RideScout, an Austin-based startup revolutionizing how people make transportation decisions by providing all available options in one interface. He will address the role technology is playing in changing people’s behavior around transit and mobility.
- Linda S. Watson is the president and chief executive officer of the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority, bringing more than 25 years of transportation related experience. She will speak about Cap Metro’s local transportation initiatives.
